  1. “1. Climate change is real”

Do they really need to say this? Who are they saying it to? Who needs to hear it? The mind boggles.

  2. I assume you're asking rhetorically, but there's actually an answer to that question most people do not know: 1. Because weather is not climate. 2. Because all you and I get to experience in our lifetimes is weather. Climate is beyond our scope, at least without responsible reporting of extensive, accurate and consistent measurements. In the context of global warming debate, "climate" refers to the *average global* climate, which is something no one gets to experience directly. (You can't be everywhere at once.) Therefore, you can only arrive at the conclusion “climate change is real” by reviewing the data presented -- or at least an interpretation of the data by others who have presumably reviewed it. It's NOT valid to conclude that “climate change is real” simply because Toronto weather is warmer now than you remember as a kid. In fact, much of the world has experienced cooler weather over the past several decades. Remember that this is the global average climate we're talking about. For the record, the IPCC Fourth Assessment reported that: "The total temperature increase from 1850 – 1899 to 2001 – 2005 is 0.76 [0.57 to 0.95]°C." This is both much cooler than recent weather changes experienced by many people, and much warmer than that experienced by many others.
