Built Form

Every so often, I bring out an old camera and take some random B&W pictures in and around Toronto. I have been doing this for about 10 years now. I don't think I'll ever do anything with them, but I'll keep taking them. There are hundreds of images. I hand hold a beast of camera that I would never hand hold on a commercial assignment. I shoot out of moving cars and often forgo critical focus. I photograph the ordinary, less than famous Toronto landmarks. I photograph anything. For those few hours, once a year, I do what I rarely have a chance to do. Not think. Just see. This collection of images has come to represent my experience of Toronto. Many of the pictures are of places I remember from my youth. Odd thing is that these pictures have become favourites of friends and family. Maybe it's the slightly fuzzy quality, just like real memory. People know that building, they have walked by that statue or under that arch. It says a lot for the subtle influence of a city's built form.
