Getting It Right On The Waterfront
image

While waiting for the next evolution of our long lamented waterfront you might want to take in some of the amenities on the harbour that already work. The playful and lush music garden is one of those spots where the city's designers and planners got it just about right. We also have to thank Arthur Erickson for his Kings Landing building - across the street - which shows other condo developments on the Queen's Quay strip how it should have been done.

Last night's concert at the Music Garden featured Alison Melville who charmed the audience with her wit and skill, not to mention her depth and breadth of knowledge about Baroque music. BTW, she has a CD for sale.
In the Company of Songbirds
Playing recorders, baroque flutes and folk flutes, Alison Melville performs music inspired by birdsong from the 17th to 21st centuries.

Of course, the music garden happens to be located adjacent to the Island Airport. With two airlines announcing plans for roughly twenty flights a day each from the island, the Music Garden's quiet charm will be lost. Think Bambi Meets Godzilla and you have an idea of what is about to happen.

  1. We walked by the music garden last night, at around 10pm. We also snuck into the new HTO park down the street. Looks like it will be nice, when it’s finished.

Last week when I watched the symphony in Chicago, in the park, flights from O’Hare were going overhead. They were high enough to be audible but not drowning out what was going on.

Downtown isn’t in the flightpath of Pearson—but if you go north of lawrence, you start to hear the planes a lot more.
