Power Generation and Urban Design - 2

According to a news release from Councilor Pat Fletcher's office Ontario Power Generation has decided not to go ahead with the proposed Port Lands power station. For many in Toronto's design community the revised proposal was yet another misstep in the ongoing saga of our waterfront. A low emission power plant that includes solar, wind, and cogeneration benefits would be a landmark project for the city. A plant without those benefits, that would also release thousands of kilograms of waste steam into the environment, would doom the Port Lands to a future of marginal industrial uses. We can hope that this decision marks a turning point in the history of our remarkable waterfront resource.
