A Residency/ Exhibition opportunity provided by
Charles Street Video, and the Images Festival of Film, Video and New Media

As the city seems to continually change before our eyes, it is good to turn to our older generations to get a broader perspective on what has changed and what has stayed the same.

Images Festival and Charles Street video invite older artists (55 years +) to step forward and propose solo or collaborative* works that draw upon their experience of Toronto's rapidly changing urban landscape as witnessed over the course of the last 4 decades.

The current lingua franca of urban critique is the "guerrilla intervention". Many of these projects are motivated by a desire to momentarily interrupt an urban environment that seems dehumanized, boring, and out of touch with the real life of its inhabitants. Many see public art/interventions as a way to lament or welcome the rapid change of the urban landscape.

We invite proposals that consider a more durable intervention, to challenge the ephemeral desires of the city with a generous, historical perspective. Perhaps the true "renegade" is not only a challenge to the urban sense of space, but also a challenge to its sense of time. Perhaps something can be built that lasts.

After all, you've lasted - probably a bit longer than you thought you would.

Proposals are invited for a single channel videos or installations that reflects upon the community / neighbourhood changes in Metro Toronto, with the spirit of "renegade" public art. One artist or a collobratative proposal will be selected.

The successful applicant will craft a single channel video work or installation. CSV will support the creation of the tapes with, production and post-production equipment access, workshops, credit towards materials, time with in-house editor and artist fees. The completed work will be presented during the Images Festival, April 2006.
