Do you ever have that where am I experience? You're walking down a Toronto street and just for a moment realize you could easily be somewhere else. In the fiction that is the movie business the city has substituted for thousands of other places – so many I often wonder why our built fabric is so easily changed to represent some other place and time.
The local film industry is expert at making these changes. If you're interested in seeing how go to the corner of Eastern and Carlaw in the city's east end. They've turned half a city block into the Bronx or maybe Harlem of the seventies. Even down to the mailboxes, newspapers, graffiti, and parking signs.
